Mérida....Paseo de Montejo

We've explored Paseo de Montejo in Mérida from one end to the other.  It was so much more than we expected.  The historical and beautiful homes were truly amazing.  It was also the perfect place to walk on a very hot day as the sidewalks are very wide and large trees shade the entire area.

Beautiful homes along the way....

Incredible details.....

This historic home was in disrepair and looked abandoned....sad to see....

One of several large intersections....combination of roundabout and traffic lights.  We had a heck of a time crossing the street....there were no crosswalks, no 'walk' buttons etc....we literally took our life in our hands and ran across several lanes of traffic....scary, but we made it!

It may not look like it but I'm just about to die here!  It was around 38C, boiling hot.  We hadn't planned to walk the entire route and hadn't taken any water along.  We finally made it to a grocery store!

We continued walking as we were in search of a Danish bakery that I had read about.  We realized that we were getting a bit off the beaten path and the address I had for the bakery just wasn't working out.  Anyone know of a Danish bakery in this area?

A very cool mosaic that we stumbled upon....

There are many reasons to visit Mérida but Paseo de Montejo is definitely a must-do.  Just remember to take along some water and wear comfy walking shoes!
