Friday August 16th
Continued....
With our freshly steamed crabs ordered for pick-up later, we venture off again.....this time a driving tour...
The Empress Hotel...... More about the Empress Hotel
The Parliament Buildings... More about the Parliament Buildings
You can rent carriages for a tour....
We did a little drive by of our condo on the way to the beach!
Time to head for the beach and enjoy the scenery away from the city sights....
That's USA land that you can see in the distance....
Wow......how perfect would that be.....a kayak in beautiful calm seas....
We continued our drive into Oak Bay area....
And a visit to Victoria is never complete without a drive through 'Uplands'. Hoity toity land with many many beautiful mansions and grounds. When I win a really big lottery!...
We continued on to Cadboro Bay area where I found a little shop that sold my favourite soap....
Up the hill to see my old stomping grounds...University of Victoria. So much construction going on, but my residence building of 1977 looked exactly the same!
And then we get lost! Well, not really as we know our way around Victoria very well. We were on our way to retrieve our crabs from the wharf, but needed a grocery store to get some bread, butter and garlic. Mom says there's a Save On Foods nearby. But then I say, no, I saw one really close to the condo when we arrived yesterday. So, off we go to find that one. Haha...joke's on me. We find my Save On, only to discover that it's 'Save On Foods'....Memorial Arena!!! The sign looks identical to the grocery store! So, it's back to go to the other Save On. Which takes us about 35 minutes longer than it should have. Long story short, I was ready to through my phone with it's little map app out the window! Grrr! Anyway, we finally found it, got our goodies and then just make it to the crab shack before they closed! Whew....
But it was worth all that stress.....soooo yummy!
And we ate it all!!!!
And then it was time to dash down to the inner harbour once again. Throughout the weekend there had been a dragon boat festival and tonight they were doing a lantern light-up. Make a donation to the Cancer Society and receive a lantern. The pink one is for Dad, who passed away exactly one year ago today.....the orange one is for our son Jason, a cancer survivor who was diagnosed with a ganglio neuroblastoma when he was 8 months old. Also for Vince's grandparents. And also for our friend Kathryn, who was diagnosed almost 5 years ago with colon cancer and struggles daily with this dreaded disease. We need a cure!!
It was very emotional for us, and for many of the others there to pay tribute.
After such a beautiful day, our hearts are feeling heavy. But, we wander the inner harbour and hear some great live music that puts smiles back on our faces once again.
The Parliament Buildings lit up at night....
The Empress Hotel where we will be going for tea tomorrow!
Now I feel like I'm back in England!
It's been a busy, fun, emotional day and our feet are aching! Back to the condo to rest up for another great day!
More beautiful pictures of a wonderful trip! I loved every one.
