Isla Mujeres 2012 ~~ Day 17

Isla Mujeres 2012

Monday Feb.27

~~Day 17  “Fiestarita #5”

¡Buenos dias Sol!

We have a busy afternoon, so we get to Playa Norte nice and early.  Settle in ‘our’ spot and enjoy the view.

Back home to get our place ready for the invasion for Fiestarita #5.  Every year it seems to get bigger and bigger!  It’s fun to get everyone together.  It’s a potluck so there is a ton of great food to enjoy.

Just have to stop and enjoy the sunset first…..

Kitty is watching as the crowd gathers on the balcony…

Good thing Casita Isladise is built so well….that’s a big crowd!

Time to eat!  Forgot to take a photo before everyone dug in!

Great evening….looking forward to #6!

Isla Mujeres 2012 ~~ Day 16

Isla Mujeres 2012

Sunday Feb.26

~~Day 16  “Adios to Amigos and Lolo Lorena Dazzles!”

Get ready for some sunrise photos!  Today, it was so amazing and it lasted so long….excitement and bliss all mixed together….

And as the sun rises, the view is just as beautiful to the west…

We head off to the beach nice and early….

Just after lunch we hop on the moped and meet up with Keith and Elisa, who, unfortunately are leaving Isla…

Sometimes you meet people under incredible circumstances and you just click.  It’s such a gift when that happens.  We had so much fun together….so looking forward to doing it again next time.  Get the ‘To Do’ list started Keith!

I think Keith was tempted to jump ship and swim back to Isla shore!

It looks like the ferries are in a race…

We spend the rest of the afternoon at la playa and head home for sunset…the usual routine!

Time to get ready for our dinner with Lolo Lorena.  We’ve had several amazing dinners with Lolo over the years, each one more outstanding than the last.  It’s not just incredible food bursting with flavour….it’s a special experience with a passionate chef who continually surprises us.  Such a great evening!

The cozy romantic table….

THE Lolo….chef extraordinaire!

Baby lobster and shrimp…

Filet mignon atop au gratin potatoes with a green peppercorn sauce…

We were also entertained by the fire dancers….they were very good!

Dessert, dessert, oh my, delicious decadent dessert!

If you want a special dining experience reserve your dinner with Lolo Lorena!  You and your mouth and tummy will LOVE it!

Tomorrow….Fiestarita Time!

Isla Mujeres 2012 ~~ Day 15

Isla Mujeres 2012

Saturday Feb.25

~~Day 15  “In The Isla Rhythm”

After 15 days in Isladise, we’ve fallen into a comfortable rhythm….sunrise, beach, sunset, dinner.  Each day as wonderful as the one before and although similar, every day is always a relaxing adventure!

And I’m not going to jinx that rhythm by missing a sunrise.  I beat the sun again…

View from inside Casita Isladise through the big windows…

Our usual quick breakfast at home….usually some yogurt and fruit or some buns and jam if we’ve been to Chedraui.  Trek to Playa Norte to our reserved spot!  Okay, so it’s not really reserved, but after 15 days, it should be mine!

Vince dashes off around noon to pick up some para llevar fish ‘n chips from Jax.  He was gone a really long time and I was beginning to wonder/worry.  Finally shows up….guess they lost his order so he had to wait quite a while.  At least it was yummy!

Back home we find that Fatima has left a pretty little towel swan for us.

I picked up some fresh flowers for our little home.   Huge bouquet for less than $5.  The flower shop is just east of Miguel’s Moonlight.

The patio is all ready for sunset viewing, so we grab a little drink and get comfy.

It wasn’t a spectacular sunset, but a great time to just sit together and think back on another perfect day.

Vince has a craving for pasta so we head for Rolandi’s on Hidalgo.    Vince’s pasta was very good….

And we shared a pizza as well.

And then it was one last celebration with Keith and Elisa on their…. shhhh….last night.  Nobody likes the last night, so we’ll take away the pain with tequila and chocolate!  What a combination!  On the rooftop at Arriba….the upstairs bar of Comono….now located above El Patio..

And our usual….chocolate tempura….have I convinced everyone to try this by now!?

Someone might have had a little bit too much!!  Time to go home and do it all again mañana!

Tomorrow…..sad goodbyes…..and a fabulous Lolo Lorena dinner extravaganza!

Isla Mujeres 2012 ~~ Day 14

Isla Mujeres 2012

Friday Feb.24

~~Day 14  “The To-Do List Day”

Another day, another sunrise….I’m up before the sun today…

As I sit here on my balcony, I quickly realize that the holiday is almost half over.  But then I flip it around and say to myself…’yippee..still have 14 days left!’   At least that’s what I tried to trick myself to believe!

Keith and Elisa had sent an email early this morning asking if we wanted to join them for breakfast at Café Cito.  I just had toast but everything looked yummy!

From breakfast we head off to the beach with plans to meet up again later tonight.  Off we go to plant our butts in our favourite spot on Playa Norte.  Water bottle, book, sunglasses….all set!

I enjoyed the view for a while…and then probably enjoyed looking at the back of my eyelids too

I’m pretty sure there was a sunset….not sure why there is no photo today!

We meet Keith and Elisa at Asia Caribe.  They only have 2 nights left and wanted to squeeze in as much as possible.  Hence, the ‘To-Do List’!  On the list…..where to listen to music tonight, and where to find the best strawberry margarita.  Let the quest begin!

So, even though it didn’t really go with our dinner, we order strawberry margaritas.  Dinner!

And what comes after dinner?  Dessert!  And where is the only dessert we’ve been eating these days?  At Comono’s!  We wander to the south end of Hidalgo and order our favourite chocolate tempura….and strawberry margaritas.

Very stuffed, we’re off to begin the music quest while we continue the marg quest.  We were going to go to La Terraza on Hidalgo but didn’t hear music there yet, so we wander to Poc Na Hostel where we know Fa Sostenido are playing.  I’ve never been inside there….it was pretty cool!  We bump into Deene and Lloyd there too and quickly find a spot to sit amongst the 20-year-olds!

As always, we love to listen to Fabio and Gustavo….so talented.

And then it’s time to continue the margarita quest…off to Medina and Brisas Grill.  4 strawberry margs on the table…

4 really happy Isla Canucks….

¡Salud!

Nothing like sitting with your toes in the sand, under the stars, listening to the sea lap upon the shore.  Great way to end another great day.

So….what were the strawberry margarita results…..

Asia Caribe….best alcohol
Comono’s….best strawberries
Brisas Grill….best location

We didn’t get everything crossed off the To-Do List…that’s what next year is for!
