Isla Mujeres 2014 ~~ Day 15

Isla Mujeres 2014

Day 15 ~~ Friday Feb.21

"Moped Isla Tour!"

Lots and lots of photos today….let's get started!

5:45am and I am at my favourite perch….

Enjoying the sound of the waves….

No time to linger this morning….we have a fun day planned!  We've made arrangements to get our moped today and join Dan and Steph for an island tour.  At 9 Vince is out the door but a short time later, he is back with no moped.  He has to go back in 30 minutes and it should be available then.  Hmm….we're supposed to meet Dan and Steph at Mango Cafe for brekkies.  Guess we'll be a bit late!

Just after 10 we are on our way, zooming down the caribe road to Mango Cafe.  Dan and Steph have just finished eating, so they wander about the Church while we quickly have a bite.

Vince orders pancakes, scrambled eggs and bacon and we both have watermelon juice.  It was very good but we gobble it quickly so we can join our amigos...

The place is hopping!

And what do I see but another happy Mapchick customer!

As soon as we pay our bill and use the very nice clean restroom, we dash across the street to catch up to Dan and Steph, stopping to admire the very pretty Church...

What an incredible view….

Steph is on a sea glass hunt, so it's off to the 'secret' beach.  It should be called the 'almost impossible to get to without breaking a leg' beach!

Those are the steps we had to come down…

Steph assumes sea glass hunting position...

While I enjoy the views in every direction..

I actually did spend about a minute looking for some sea glass, but all I could find was this….an awesome marble!!  Steph hates me now….it was exactly what she had been searching for!  Keep looking amiga…your marble is out there!

I had my friend Brenda 'wrap' it for me and I wear it often!

I'm renaming this beach 'Chucky's Beach'!

A nice quiet spot…

But we've got places to go and things to see, so we hop on the mopeds and continue down the caribe side.  We stop in at Punta Sur, but the parking lot is overflowing with golf cart rentals.  Wow!  Never seen it like that but we don't often go there mid-day.  Scary busy with day trippers!

So, we decide to come back later and follow the road to the Garrafon overlook...

We've enjoyed this view on each holiday for over 12 years now, but are always amazed at the gorgeous hues of blues...

Dan and Steph…

Zooming off again, we continue up the west side and up Sac Bajo.  We stop in at Zama's.  The place is empty…that's weird?  A fellow greets us as we enter and tells us that it is closed today for more day trippers.  Okay, no problem, we weren't going to stay, but can we show our friends around?  No problema.  We walk out onto the dock to take in the views...

Everyone is feeling thirsty by now, so we head back down towards Garrafon and stop in at 'The Joint'. It was busy but we managed to find a table and drinks are quickly ordered.  Very yummy strawberry margarita..so cold I got a delightfully painful brain freeze!

I love these glasses!

Dan, Steph and Vince ordered the 4 cervezas for $100 pesos, which came with a small serving of some very delicious guacamole.  We'll have to get a larger serving next time as it was very good.

Thirst quenched, we head further north and stop in at the Marina at Villa Vera, hoping to see some huge yachts.  Nothing too impressive docked there today, but lots of giant iguanas...

Feeling thirsty again, imagine that!….we make our way to Chuuk Kay.  Very quiet in the middle of the day as there is no entertainment right now.  This was our first time here….Nice view...

Strawberry margaritas are ordered…happy hour 2 for $70 pesos….a great deal and they are very good!

We also order some guacamole…..I have to say that this is probably one of the best I've tasted…..it was delish!

We linger for a while and then head back to Punta Sur, hoping that all the trippers have left….thankfully yes, the parking lot is empty.

We don't have a lot of time as Dan and Steph have to return their moped by 5, so we walk quickly around Punta Sur, enjoying the incredible views...

The interesting rock formations…

Looking up the east side of Isla Mujeres...

Ixchel…

We first met Dan and Steph in 2004, during one of our many visits to the Iberostar Paraiso del Mar, south of Puerto Morelos.  It was great to spend time with them again, all these years later.  We're looking forward to more fun days exploring together in 2015!

We follow them back to centro and arrive home just in time to enjoy a bit of the sunset…

Click to enjoy the view in motion...

Now that we have our moped we can enjoy going to other restaurants all over the island.   We've tried a few new places today during our tour, so we decide to try one more place we've never been to but have always heard such good things.  Off to Oscar's, just a little bit south of Chedraui on Medina….

We order a pizza with ham, pineapple, olives and mushrooms.  While we're waiting, we receive complimentary still-warm-from-the-oven garlic knots.  OMG….oh my, oh yummy goodness!  Soooo delicious!  Who needs pizza!  Vince kept saying that I shouldn't fill up on them, but they were too decadent to resist!

Our pizza arrives, looking much larger than I expected, especially since my tummy is already pleasantly full!  We had leftovers for lunch tomorrow!  It was very good…nice thin crust…

You can sit right along Medina and people/traffic watch or you can take the stairs to the area behind right by the water.  We didn't even know about that spot until our next visit!

The end to a very fun-filled, jam-packed day!
