Botanas y Bebidas en Mérida....
This was our second visit to Mérida. On our first visit we discovered a very cool cantina. A non-descript facade, but as soon as we entered, the waiters were all over us. I think we may have been a bit of an oddity....mostly a local hangout, but we were warmly welcomed.
On top of that, free entertainment too!
The Governor's Palace in the background...
Fresh guacamole and home made tortilla chips....yummy!
One night we went for dinner at Panchos....nice garden setting....
One morning we ended up at a newly opened German Bierhaus....I ordered toast for brekkies....
....while Vince had an omelet....
The owners of the Bierhaus.....
And of course, what would a trip to anywhere in Mexico be without a little street food adventure...
It was very good, very cheap, and best of all, we all survived!
I had a mushroom appetizer....
And a fresh fruit plate for dessert....
Did we love Mérida....oh yes!
And quickly surprised! As soon as we ordered some drinks, the food started arriving. The more we ordered, the more 'botanas' we received....the longer we stayed, the more 'authentic' the botanas became.
On top of that, free entertainment too!
One of favourite places to sit and people watch was this beautiful location on the main zocalo....
That balcony has my name on it!
The view was amazing and the drinks were potent!
Okay, maybe a little too potent!
The Governor's Palace in the background...
Fresh guacamole and home made tortilla chips....yummy!
And the ever-present wandering minstrels...they were very good!

Andrew Allen!!
What a great concert! What amazing talent!
Andrew Allen is a gifted songwriter, singer and performer, from right here in Vernon! Years ago when he was the singer for 'Martin', he sang a song called, "I'm gonna be a Rock Star". I think that song has come true! He is a rock star and we can't wait to see what comes next for Andrew. Continued success all around the world!
If you have the opportunity to see Andrew....go!!
From the Vernon Performing Arts Concert
Andrew Allen..."I Want You"
During the 2 Vernon concerts, Andrew was taking video for his latest hit "Satellite". Here is a link to the lyric video but we'll be watching for our faces when the music video comes out!

The Churches of Mérida
We have enjoyed two 3-day visits to Mérida. It is a beautiful, bustling city, full of history, colourful streets and amazing architecture. We have walked miles and miles throughout Mérida and have been happy for every blister on our tired feet. There is still so much to see!
Mérida is definitely the city of Churches. There seems to be a church and a park on every corner. Some are over 300 hundred years old and some were built by the Spaniards, using materials from Mayan creations. They are all beautiful in their simplicity. Here are just a few photos, although they cannot capture the grandeur....definitely a must-see on your next holiday to Mexico!

Is It Really October?....
Such unbelievable weather for October! After a somewhat chaotic but delicious Thanksgiving dinner last night....the power went out at Mom's house, so we finished cooking at my house....we enjoyed a wonderful picnic at Kaloya Park, basking in the sunshine, feeding the ducks, and believe or not, a dip in the lake....at least a quick one!
The ducks were happy to see us and loved olive oil and rosemary triscuits!
My mom enjoying some time with Amaya
The always present Canadian geese
Thinking about it.....
He went for it!
There was a 'Daniel Craig' Bond moment after this! :)
