Botanas y Bebidas en Mérida....

This was our second visit to Mérida.  On our first visit we discovered a very cool cantina.  A non-descript facade, but as soon as we entered, the waiters were all over us.  I think we may have been a bit of an oddity....mostly a local hangout, but we were warmly welcomed.

And quickly surprised!  As soon as we ordered some drinks, the food started arriving.  The more we ordered, the more 'botanas' we received....the longer we stayed, the more 'authentic' the botanas became.

On top of that, free entertainment too!

One of favourite places to sit and people watch was this beautiful location on the main zocalo....

That balcony has my name on it!

The view was amazing and the drinks were potent!

Okay, maybe a little too potent!

The Governor's Palace in the background...

Fresh guacamole and home made tortilla chips....yummy!

And the ever-present wandering minstrels...they were very good!

One night we went for dinner at Panchos....nice garden setting....

One morning we ended up at a newly opened German Bierhaus....I ordered toast for brekkies....

....while Vince had an omelet....

The owners of the Bierhaus.....

And of course, what would a trip to anywhere in Mexico be without a little street food adventure...

It was very good, very cheap, and best of all, we all survived!

Another night, another dinner......

I had a mushroom appetizer....

Vince had chicken in banana leaves...

And a fresh fruit plate for dessert....

Did we love Mérida....oh yes!

  1. Thank you for the wonderful reminder of beautiful Merida. It was fun running into you there more than once! I heard that Plaza Serenata has been closed and the staff laid off, to renovate and open a different restaurant. I will miss my favorite waiter and the el pastor burritos and other dishes.

  2. It was so fun running into you two as well...must be a small town after all!

Yes, I heard that about Plaza Seranata as well....truly sad to hear that. It was never very busy when we went there, which I found strange, but I don't think it was obvious to many people that there was access to the balcony upstairs..such an awesome spot to sit. The lime margaritas were awesome!

We've been to Mérida twice now....think we will try Valladolid and Tulum next time.
