Isla Mujeres 2014 ~~ Day 8

Isla Mujeres 2014

Day 8~~Friday Feb.14

“Happy Valentine’s Day!”

What a gorgeous day it’s going to be!  At 6am, it’s already toasty warm and no breeze…..

Just the right amount of clouds on the horizon to create an amazing sunrise….yes, that’s a sunRISE!

We enjoy the view while we gobble some toast and fruit.  And then guess what!!??  It’s our 5th day here and we are Finally headed to the beach!!

We pack up the gear and then walk the familiar streets….stopping near the Mercado at the end of Guerrero…..a fire pit where I bet they are going to be making cochinita pibil for Sunday!  Yummo!

And then, there it is …..in my dreams for the past 2 years and now I can finally wiggle my toes in that cool soft sand.  Playa Norte in all its glory…..and filled to the brim with worshippers, so I have to adjust the camera a bit to avoid all the bodies!

We sizzle away until early afternoon and then head home with a stop at the Telcel store to have a sim card cut for my unlocked iPhone.  Worked perfectly!

We have a dinner reservation tonight so we get ready and then just sit and relax with a glass of vino tinto while we watch the show…it begins bright and beautiful…..

And then becomes a sky on fire….

This beauty is something that needs to be appreciated fully….how grateful and happy I am that I am here seeing this right now….

And looking from the east side balcony we enjoy a ‘reverse’ sunset and a calm moonrise….

From the Caribbean Casa rooftop…..

And just before we dash out the door, a glimmering moon……

We walk to one of our favourite restaurants….Olivia…..

We are greeted with roses and kisses from Lior and Yaron……

It is so wonderful to be here again, and as we are taken to our table in the cozy courtyard, I can’t wait to start eating!!  I don’t even need the menu!

It’s Valentine’s so we’re splurging tonight!  A very nice bottle of Cab Sauv is ordered, along with freshly baked and to-die-for parmesan bread and tzatziki!  My feet are doing a happy dance under the table!

Thankfully, no menu changes since our last visit so our favourites are still here!  I order ‘my usual’, beef kebabs with roasted potatoes, and Vince has ribs in beer sauce with mashed potatoes.  Deeeelicious as ever!!!

Definitely in our happy place tonight…..

And somehow, we force ourselves to find room for cherry ice cream….seriously awesome!  Unfortunately, the wine must have been having some effect on me and I apologize for the blurry dessert!

We waddle along the luminary-lit path…..

Hugs goodbye to Lior and Yaron….we’ll be back again several times this holiday!  Olivia’s is a definite MUST DO!  There aren’t many restaurants that are consistently good and after a 2-year absence, it was even better than I remembered.  That is worth every peso!

We wander Hidalgo and bump into our friends at where else, the ice cream shop near the zócalo.

Jean and Rich…

Jan and Bruce….

Frank and his harem….

It’s a toasty evening when we arrive home…no breeze at all.  We sit on our balcony under the stars, sipping Kahlúa on ice.  Now that was a perfect day!!!
