Isla Mujeres 2014
Day 9~~Saturday Feb.15
“Isla Celebrity Wedding Day!”
I just can’t sleep in….some days I wish I could! But then, when it’s this gorgeous at
5:45am, I’m so glad that I don’t sleep through it!
Even Vince gets up for it….and then notices the moon setting
in the west. It looks almost
identical to how it looked last night as it was rising in the east!
There is not a breeze at all this morning, and not a cloud
in the sky…..a perfect day for a wedding!!!!
Yes, today is an exciting day…..the famous Captain Tony has
found his bride, Betsy. We feel
truly honoured to be invited!
We have the day ahead of us though, so first things
first. Some toast and fruit while
we enjoy the view as the sun rises higher….I’m so tempted to swim out to that
nice sandy spot….
We decide to stay at home today since we need to be at the
wedding just around 4. Fatima and
Jose come to clean our little home and do a wonderful job as always. We had our Latin music on and they
enjoyed that while making things spiffy.
It’s a toasty afternoon, so there are a lot of dips to cool
off….
Not a bad view to enjoy from the pool….
By 4 we are in a taxi to Playa Mexico….he has another fare
with him and takes the east side road to drop him off, then cuts across the
island….$70 pesos.
The handsome groom is looking happy and relaxed…..
The venue is looking beautiful….
Tony dashes off to make some last minute adjustments….
And then he strikes a familiar and
perfect pose…..I run to get the shot and BAM!!!......As I go down in a face
plant the camera takes a photo of my landing……
There is pain, but I need to get
that shot! Groaning, I jump up,
although the perfect moment is gone.
Tony is concerned for my welfare…..I’m actually amazed that he isn’t
laughing as it must have looked quite funny!....he’s pointing out that whatever
I tripped over, needs to be fixed.
It turns out that it was a tree
stump that was hidden by sand. It
gets dug out and ‘flagged’. I’m
always willing to take one for the team…what’s a little blood and
bruising!
But, the brand new camera is a
little worse for wear too. Not
quite sure how we managed to get it to work again….it was jammed up with sand
everywhere! Vince shakes it over
and over with sand trickling out of it.
It will need a thorough cleaning, but for now, it’s still working! Back to the wedding!...
Captain Tony looking for his
bride!….
Time for everyone to gather on the
beach…..the groom and his bride exchanging looks of love….
Let’s get the wedding started!
A short simple ceremony…..lots of smiles but not a dry eye
in the crowd!
And then…..yes Tony, after being rebuffed earlier….you may
now kiss your bride!
Betsy put a ring on it!!
The newlyweds go off to take photos on this perfect day,
while we….”let’s take a selfie!”
It really could not be more perfect…..
A large crowd of hungry people!....
The food was delicious…..
Wonderful, flavourful and tender arrechera, nugget potatoes,
rice and guacamole….soooo good!
Having a fun time with mi amiga Brenda….
As the sky darkens, everyone returns to the beach to set
lanterns adrift. With not even a
light breeze, it required a lot of patience and a bit of luck!
Tony and Vince were successful!
We watch them soar into the sky, following them all the way
to Cancun….wonder where they ended up!
Time for the wedding toast…..
Visiting with Alex and Marylee…..our first reunion since
about 2003!
Wonderful music and the dancing begins….
And then the wedding cake! Made by the bride!
The best wedding cake ever!....different layers of vanilla, chocolate
and carrot cake. The chocolate was
gone by the time I got there, but the carrot cake was soooo good! And on top of that it was so pretty!
And what’s next….tossing the wedding bouquet! Betsy gets into position…
And then……mayhem!!!!
There’s diving, scuffling, shoving…..too funny! I’m not sure who won but it was quite
entertaining!
It was a wonderful wedding with a perfect setting and a couple
that is so in love with each other.
We are so happy that we could be here to share in that joy! Thank you Tony and Betsy…….may you
enjoy many years of wedded bliss!
Brenda and Brian offer us a ride part way home, but a few
blocks from Sac Bajo, the cart stalls and sputters….uhoh! Brian tries to get it restarted, but
nada. The boys get a closer
look…..don’t you wonder exactly what they think they will discover when they do
that?!
No luck, so we
walk to Brenda and Brian’s home, Casa Flores. We sit and relax for a while and then the
boys/mechanics hop on the moped with some tools and head back to the abandoned
cart. Not sure what magic they
performed but they’re back home a short time later and all is good. Just to be sure, Brian gives us a ride
in the golf cart back to centro. ¡Gracias
amigo! The perfect end to the
perfect day!
